Aina von Essen
Violin & Viola Instructor
Aina von Essen began her violin studies at the age of twelve after moving from San Juan, Puerto Rico to the United States. Since then, she has studied with Sumer Ketron, Oleg Geyer, and Nancy Chang. She currently studies with Professor Lei Liu at The University of Tampa, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. Ms. von Essen has been awarded an annual Music Scholarship from the Department of Music, as well as other academic scholarships from The University of Tampa. She is currently the Concertmaster of The University of Tampa Symphony Orchestra. In the past, Ms. von Essen has performed in numerous chamber music ensembles as well as orchestras; the Pinellas Youth Symphony, Serenade Strings Chamber Orchestra, and South Shore Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. She has also participated in master classes with the Cuban National Symphony (2012), the Graffe String Quartet (2013), and violinist Suliman Tekalli (2013). Aside from being an active orchestra and chamber musician, she teaches at Music Showcase in Brandon, FL where she has a studio of over thirty students. After completing her degree at The University of Tampa, Ms. von Essen plans to continue studying violin performance in graduate school.
