Jose Cabrera holds a Bachelor's of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, where he took private lessons from world class Jazz guitarist Barry Greene. He also attended the National Conservatory of Santo Domingo for two years, where he learned Classical guitar technique, prior to moving to the states. Currently, Jose is the guitarist/background vocalist of the Latin Jazz/Salsa band 'Son Salvaje', as well as the Funk/Jazz/Rn'B group called 'Brute Force Funk'. Among his other interests are music software, audio engineering, computers, video editing and orchestral composition. He has been teaching guitar privately for over 4 years before finally joining Music Showcase in the Spring of 2010. The desire to play guitar began at around the age of 14, when Jose saw a couple of friends play in a school recital. This was the defining moment that inspired him to play this intricate instrument for the rest of his life. At age 16, he was already playing in a rock band that performed music from known bands such as Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Police, Soda Stereo, etc. Around the same time he began to get into more complicated music, such as those from artists like John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Rush, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Blues Saraceno, Nuno Bettencourt and many more. He also began to learn advanced music theory approaches, such as those from the Dick Grove School Without Walls and Berklee School of Music, with Latin grammy award winner Socrates Garcia. After graduating from high school in '96, he joined the National Conservatory of Music of Santo Domingo, D.R., which marked the beginning of his professional career as a musician.
