Try-Its for Brownie Girl Scouts

or call Debbie at (813) 685-5998 to schedule a time. Individuals and groups welcome.

Making Music

“Music is the art of making sounds. Different people find different sounds pleasing to the ear. Some sounds in nature, like birdcalls, are musical.”
- Excerpt from the Brownie Try-Its Catalog.

We will be doing the following activities:

Move to the Music
Dance and move to different kinds of music—slow, fast, different beats and rhythms. Have fun!

Singing in Rounds
To sing in rounds, groups sing the same lyrics, but starting at different times.

Action Songs
Action songs connect words, music, and specific movements. Hokey Pokey, Bingo, and the Brownie Smile Song (on page 15 of your manual) are action songs.

Melody Glasses
Drinking glasses filled with different amounts of water can become a musical instrument. You will get to play songs on the melody glasses!

You will also get to experience our special Instrument Petting Zoo, take a tour of the store, and receive a Certificate of Completion.

Sounds of Music

“What makes music different from noise? Music is different from noise because it usually has a regular sound or rhythm. If you think about it, some noises, such as the drip, drip, drip of a faucet, can sound like music. What other noises inside or outside can sound like music?”
- Excerpt from the Brownie Try-Its Catalog.

We will be doing the following activities:

Make Your Own
Make your own tambourine, a fun percussion instrument.

Sliding Air
What does wind have to do with music? Different sounds are made by changing the amount of air in a tube. You will make a wind instrument with a plastic bottle, straw, and water.

Shoebox Guitar
You will take ordinary household items and turn them into a guitar!

Live Music
Attend a concert. There are many concerts and recitals at Music Showcase and in other venues around the community.

You will also take a tour of the store and receive a Certificate of Completion.
